Mindfulness and Psychotherapy

This past weekend, the University of California at Los Angeles held a conference on Mindfulness and Psychotherapy. Sarah Lazar presented her research on brain changes in meditators (Click here for Dr. Lazar’s website). She found that people who meditate over the long term experience less age-related cortical thinning, among other differences. Her research is aimed at discovering changes in the physical structure of the brain as a result of meditating. These structural changes happen over time as a result of a commitment, an activity, and an intention.
